MV Agusta’s F3 has evolved significantly since its introduction as a middleweight counterpart to the flagship F4. Originally designed by the legendary Massimo Tamburini, the F3 began as a 675cc model but quickly gained popularity, leading to continuous upgrades over the years. For 2025, MV Agusta takes the F3 to new heights with the F3 Competizione, a limited-edition version aimed at offering near-litre-bike performance while maintaining its lightweight agility.
Performance Boost and Engine Upgrades
The 2025 F3 Competizione is powered by an 798cc three-cylinder engine, delivering 160 horsepower at 13,500 rpm, which is a significant increase over the standard F3RR model by 5 hp. This boost is largely thanks to a specially designed Akrapovič titanium race exhaust that reduces weight and enhances engine performance. The exhaust helps drop the weight by 6.6 pounds compared to the stock unit, contributing to an overall weight of just 407 pounds (or 394.6 pounds with the race exhaust installed). This makes the F3 Competizione’s power-to-weight ratio a thrilling 2.5 lb./hp, placing it in the same league as top-tier superbikes.
The Competizione’s engine also features a nine-disc slipper/assist clutch that reduces lever effort by 50%, improving rider comfort during hard braking and cornering. The bike comes equipped with a bidirectional quickshifter, allowing smooth, effortless shifting and helping keep the engine in its optimal powerband.
Advanced Electronics and Handling Features
MV Agusta has packed the F3 Competizione with state-of-the-art electronics, driven by a six-axis IMU developed by Milan-based e-Novia. This system offers four riding modes (Rain, Normal, Sport, and Race), along with advanced features such as eight-level traction control, wheelie control, launch control, and cruise control. The IMU also works with the bike’s ABS system, offering Sport and Race modes. In Race mode, ABS is active only on the front wheel, cornering ABS is disabled, and Rear Lift Mitigation (RLM) is less intrusive. ABS can be completely disabled when the bike is equipped with the race exhaust and is used solely on the track.
The F3 Competizione’s suspension has also been upgraded for track-ready performance. The bike now features Öhlins suspension, replacing the Marzocchi fork and Sachs shock from the standard F3 RR. The front end gets an NIX 30 inverted fork with full adjustability, and the rear is managed by a TTX 36 shock with a piggyback reservoir. The Öhlins suspension reduces weight by 2.2 pounds compared to the RR, improving both handling and stability.
Chassis and Design Enhancements
The chassis of the F3 Competizione retains the iconic steel tubular trellis frame with aluminum side plates, and it keeps the single-sided aluminum swingarm. However, a significant change comes in the form of BST carbon fiber wheels, which replace the standard forged aluminum ones. These lightweight wheels reduce unsprung weight and rotational mass by 6.6 pounds, improving acceleration and handling responsiveness.
For braking performance, the F3 Competizione uses Brembo’s latest Stylema Monoblock calipers paired with 320mm front discs, providing track-ready stopping power. The rear brake remains the same with a 220mm disc and a Brembo dual-piston caliper. The bike also gets a lithium-ion battery, saving an additional 6.6 pounds over the standard lead-acid unit.
Aerodynamics and Styling
The bodywork of the F3 Competizione remains largely the same as the F3 RR but with significant aerodynamic enhancements. The carbon side panels feature integrated winglets that generate 8 kg (17.6 pounds) of downforce at 150 mph, aiding stability at high speeds. The bike also features a carbon front fender for improved airflow, helping with brake cooling and engine cooling. A smoked racing windscreen rounds out the aerodynamics.
The seat is covered in Alcantara fabric, adding a premium touch, and the CNC-machined top triple clamp has a numbered plaque that designates the specific unit of the 300 units being produced. The bike’s color options include Satin Black/Satin Intense Silver with gold trim, giving it a bold yet refined appearance.
Race Kit and Additional Features
The F3 Competizione comes with a Race Kit that includes the Akrapovič full titanium race exhaust, a carbon heel guard, a CNC-machined screw-in fuel cap, a fiberglass solo seat cover, and a dedicated bike cover. Buyers will also receive a Certificate of Authenticity confirming the bike’s limited-edition status.
MV Agusta has also introduced a factory support race program for regional and national competitors using the F3 Competizione, making it an attractive choice for serious racers.
Pricing and Availability
The 2025 MV Agusta F3 Competizione will be available in Europe in late April/early May, with a price tag of €34,000 (approximately $37,000). As of now, US pricing has not been announced, but it’s expected to be available sometime after the European launch.
With its impressive performance upgrades, lightweight design, and track-focused features, the 2025 F3 Competizione is set to be a thrilling ride for enthusiasts looking for a limited-edition machine with world-class performance.
